RADVENT Day 1: Windir’s “Arntor”

For the first 24 days of December, Radio in Opposition and guests will share with you one very special album, one day at a time. We call it RADVENT.

Today’s RADVENT delight was gifted to us by Scottish black metal act Saor, whose latest full-length “Aura” is out now.

“Arntor” is the perfect mixture of folk and black metal in my opinion. It takes the raw power and atmosphere of 90’s Norwegian Black Metal and mixes it with traditional Norwegian folk elements without ever sounding cheesy or over the top. “Svartesmeden og lundamyrstrollet” is up there with the best Black Metal songs of all time. This album also helped me discover other black/folk metal acts and is a huge inspiration for Saor. A true metal classic and criminally underrated!

EDITOR’S NOTE: The main dude in this band died of hypothermia while walking, ON FOOT, to his family’s cabin in Norway. The coroner’s report cited the official cause of death as “cvld as fvck”.
